Sinteco has always been active in the fight against the marketing and import of Illegal HFC gases. For this reason, our company has signed a public commitment with the European Association EFCTC, which represents producers and importers of fluorinated gases: Sinteco is also actively involved, and in the “SAY NO TO ILLEGAL HFCS” campaign, to counteract the spread of the black market for HFCs.
The new data collected by Oxera Consulting LLP and analyzed by EFCTC show that illegal imports of HFC refrigerant gases into the European Union in 2019 alone amounted to 31 million tons of CO2 equivalent.
The illegal trade in HFCs is not only harming companies that abide by the rules, it is also compromising the environment. Data shows that between 2018 and 2019 in the EU, the total amount of illegally imported HFCs is equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 55 million cars – a fifth of all cars on the road in Europe.
